Land Recognition
Nipissing University is located on the traditional territory of the Nbisiing Anishinaabeg people and, specifically, the Nipissing First Nation, within lands protected by the Robinson Huron Treaty of 1850. We are grateful to live and learn on these lands with all our relations.
Why Land Acknowledgement Matters
Land acknowledgements are more than formal statements. They are a starting point for understanding our relationship to the land and to one another. They recognize the original stewards of the land and remind us of the histories, treaties, and responsibilities that continue today.
At their best, land acknowledgements are not just words, but commitments to learning, reflection, and meaningful action.
