Nipissing University Website Privacy Statement  

Nipissing University is committed to protecting the privacy, confidentiality, and security of personal information in its custody and control. This Website Privacy Statement describes how personal information is collected, used, disclosed, and safeguarded when individuals visit or interact with the University’s website. 

Nipissing University operates in accordance with its Access to Information and Privacy Policy and Ontario’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). 

1. Authority and Purpose of Collection 

Personal information is collected under the authority of the Nipissing University Act and in accordance with FIPPA 

Where personal information is collected through the University’s website, it is collected only where necessary for the proper administration of the University’s activities and operations, including for purposes such as responding to inquiries, administering programs and services, processing registrations or donations, and communicating with individuals who have requested information. 

2. Notice of Collection 

Where personal information is collected through online forms or other interactive features of the website, the University will provide a Notice of Collection in accordance with section 39(2) of FIPPA.

  • Analytics and cookie data are generally retained for a limited period consistent with service provider settings and operational needs. 

  • Academic technology data retention is governed by institutional policy and contractual agreements with service providers.

Nipissing University employs administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. 

Access to personal information is restricted to authorized individuals who require the information to perform their duties.

The University’s website may contain links to external websites outside of Nipissing University’s custody or control. 

Nipissing University is not responsible for the content, security, or privacy practices of external websites. Users are encouraged to review the privacy policies of any external sites they visit.

Individuals have a right to request access to or make a correction to their personal information in accordance with FIPPA, subject to applicable exemptions.
