Research

Research Interests

I am interested in elucidating injury mechanisms of the musculoskeletal system, especially those that relate to cumulative trauma disorders of the forearm, wrist, and hand. Toward that goal, my lab-based research spans a number of research modalities, including marker-less motion capture, ultrasound, and high-density electromyography to assess musculoskeletal function in both optimal and fatigued states. As opportunities arise, I also complete field-based research projects on injury prevention in the workplace, especially in relation to the forearm, wrist, and hand.

  • Understanding neuromusculoskeletal interactions underlying biomechanics and control of the human hand. Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (Discovery Grants Competition), $161,000 from 2017-2024.
  • Recent teaching funding as a co-investigator includes:
  • Purchase of innovative portable motion capture equipment to revolutionize experiential learning for students in Physical and Health Education [PHE], Kinesiology, and other health related program areas. Training and Equipment Renewal Fund (TERF) through the Government of Ontario, $466,410 from 2025-2026.
