Dr. Joyce Helmer's career journey in education is as unique as it is inspiring. A Nipissing graduate with both a Bachelor and Master of Education, her story began in an unexpected place—a wrong classroom on the first day at Fanshawe College. Enrolled in the Social Service Worker Program, Dr. Helmer mistakenly attended an Early Childhood Teacher Education class instead. This serendipitous mistake set the course for a career that has profoundly impacted the educational landscape, especially for Indigenous communities in Ontario.

Nipissing University has once again demonstrated the exceptional quality of its Nursing program, as evidenced by the latest report from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). The 2023 Nursing Registration Exams Report reveals that Nipissing's graduates have achieved impressive results, including a pass rate of 94.2%, underscoring the university’s commitment to excellence in nursing education.

Thanks to a generous $200,000 donation from the North Bay Youth Soccer Club, Nipissing University has established a new endowment fund, that will provide financial support for incoming student-athletes who have demonstrated both academic excellence and athletic prowess.
